Proxy Mail QA

Testing content and rules that depend on location

What a user sees can depend on the country they signed up in, where they are right now, or both. Testing that takes a set of accounts, one per region, and a note on each of how you put it there.

Updated

Two kinds of location

A full test covers both, including someone who belongs in one country and is travelling in another.

The accounts you need

Account Set up as What it checks
Home market Signs up and browses from your main country Prices, terms and content for most of your users
EU country Signs up in, say, Germany Euro prices with VAT, consent with nothing pre-ticked
US state Signs up in, say, California Dollar prices, sales tax at checkout, “Do not sell or share” choices
Not served Signs up from a country you don’t offer A clear message instead of a broken sign-up
Traveller A home-market account, browsing through a VPN abroad Content rights follow your rules: blocked, allowed, or allowed for a while

Set them up

  1. Create one address per region. Choose Add account, set How many, label the batch “Regions” and tick Generate persona.
  2. Sign up as each from the right place. Pick the country in your form, and connect your VPN (or use a staging override, if your app has one) before you start, so the first visit already looks local.
  3. Tag each address with its region and write in its notes what you used, for example “Country: DE · VPN: Frankfurt”.
  4. Save each password on its address, so you can come back as “the German account” without redoing the setup.

What to check

The emails to check

Welcome emails, receipts and marketing often differ by region: the currency, the legal footer, the unsubscribe wording and sometimes the sender. Each account’s emails land on its own row, so you can open the German receipt and the UK one side by side and compare them.

Use these accounts only on apps you build or are allowed to test, in development, staging or QA.

Questions

Does Proxy Mail QA change where my test account appears to be?

No. Location comes from your app: the country chosen at sign-up, the user's IP address or the browser's location. Set those with your app's settings, a VPN, or the Sensors panel in Chrome's DevTools, which overrides the browser's location (not the IP address). Proxy Mail QA gives you an account per region, with its email, password and notes in one place.

Does the email domain affect the location check?

Rarely: apps don't usually decide a country from an email address. If yours does, our addresses are on mailclub.dev and enable.li, which don't point to any country.

How do I keep track of which account is which region?

Tag each address with its region, such as uk, de or us-ca, and note what you used: the country picked at sign-up and the VPN location. Tags become filters on the Accounts page.
